Even though I really like the clean layout, I should have taken a look at the code before using their free "CleanHTML Invoice and Quote Template". Unlike the default WHMCS PDF templates, the "CleanPDF" template does not make use of HTML tables or syntax. All elements are aligned on a pixel-basis making even the slightest change to any positioning absolutely painful.
Most of the functions are encoded + the PDF version does not make use of the invoice header and footer templates introduced back in WHMCS version 7. This results in the header and footer not being applied to every page of the PDF - not even to the extra page you can add through the admin area.
Also, the reverse charge note for EU customers does not seem to work - at least I couldn't get it displayed. Due to this function being encoded, I also cannot check under which conditions it should be shown.
So unfortunately, I can only recommend this template if you do not plan any modifications to it.

Finally, a great PDF designed invoice for our customers. The design is just great and modern, something that native WHMCS was never able to deliver. I highly recommend it. Support is also good.
