SSL Validity Changes
In April 2025, the CA/Browser Forum voted to gradually shorten the validity period of SSL certificates, from the current 365 days down to 47 days by March 2026.
This means that the validity period for certificates issued by Digicert will change as follows:
| Maximum certificate validity | Due Date |
| 397 days | Before February 24, 2026 |
| 199 days | Between February 24, 2026, and early 2027 |
| 99 days | Between early 2027 and early 2029 |
| 46 days | After early 2029 |
For more information, see Moving to 199-day validity for public TLS certificates.
Despite these changes you can continue to sell an SSL service for one or multiple years, thanks to WHMCS MarketConnect's automation capabilities.
From 24th February 2026, all SSL Certificates issued through MarketConnect will be auto-reissued by your WHMCS instance as the certificate's validity period approaches expiration.
If the certificate is associated with a cPanel, Plesk or DirectAdmin hosting account on your WHMCS instance, the system will also auto-install the new certificate once the first one expires, to provide the full year.
If the certificate isn't associated with a cPanel, Plesk or DirectAdmin hosting account, we will still auto-reissue the certificate. In that case your client will get an email as a notification to install the new certificate manually.
